This morning I heard several news reports related to the economy. You have to have your head in the sand not to know something is terribly wrong with the economy in America nowadays. With gas prices rising, I decided to go shopping Sunday…for a scooter. I was thinking of buying the scooter for those longer in-city trips. I want to get one before their invariable price increase. Forty years ago, during another presidential election, our country was – “similar” to today – at war, Vietnam. (As an expert on just war theory, I do not agree with the current label of the U.S. invasion and military occupation in Iraq as “war”) The energy of young Americans committed to the cause of ending the war was electrifying. Student war protestors at Kent State and the civil rights student protestors of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee carried many of the editorial and front-page headlines of the day.
